Frequently
Asked Questions (FAQ's)
Over the years we are continually
being asked the same questions, so have put together this page with some
of them and our replies.
Is
the 'cello case strong enough to put in the hold ?
This question has no answer.
Anything can be broken given enough force. That said, we make very protective
cases and travelling musicians use them for long haul travel all the time.
For most 'cellists, that's the nature of the job now. Very occasionally
things go wrong and cases may be damaged, but so long as the 'cello is
OK then a damaged case really doesn't matter. Incidents of damage to 'cellos
are thankfully very rare indeed.
For our part, we want to
provide the strongest most protective case, for the weight the 'cellist
can manage, for the price the 'cellist can afford.
Every 'cellist tries to take
their 'cello into the cabin when flying. But there are times when that
isn't possible. We are uncomfortable selling ultralightweight cases, for
example our 3.3 kg (7.2 lb) carbon case, when we know 'cellists will check
them in. Our 4.2 kg (9.25 lb) carbon cases are much stronger so we urge
'cellists who may have to check in cases, to opt for this weight carbon
case as a minimum.
Since we introduced our Blobby
cover for long-haul travel, some 'cellists use these with ultralightweight
3.3 kg carbon cases inside. Is that OK ? Well, we think the 4.2 kg carbon
case or heavier, would be safer. But if the 3.3 kg case is going to be
used this way, it is better inside a Blobby than not inside a Blobby,
but we are still not comfortable with this combination.
Our original model 9 kg fibreglass
cases still have a lot going for them. At a higher price, our original
model 5.5 kg carbon cases are equivalent.
What
are the maximum external dimensions of the cases?
The maximum external dimensions
of the original model 'cello case are (h)1.36 x .(w).53 x (d).32 m.
The maximum external dimensions
of the classical shaped case are (h)1.35 x (w).515 x (d).32m.
The external dimensions of
our bass case are: height 2.18m, maximum width (across hips) 95cm, maximum
depth (bridge to back) 65cm.
